Regional burn ban takes effect July 1

While burning restrictions have been in place for weeks now in some districts, the Oregon Department of Forestry, The Dalles Unit, in conjunction with all local fire districts will enter the annual burn ban this Monday, July 1, at 1 a.m. The ban affects all lands within Hood River and Wasco counties. Burn permits are void until the ban is lifted in the fall after a significant amount of rain. Forestry officials also reminded the public that fireworks legal in Oregon are allowed unless land owners decide otherwise. Exceptions to this rule include:

• state parks and Bureau of Land Management lands, where fireworks are prohibited at all times,

• lands under a Regulated Use Closure in which fireworks are prohibited.

Check with the landowner and ODF for current restrictions.
