Spring open burning has concluded - MCFR halts burn permit issuance

Spring open burning season in The Dalles has concluded. Fall open burning in The Dalles will run from Oct. 16 to Dec. 1.

In addition, Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue has halted issuing any new burn permits and prohibits all burning within its boundaries, effective May 20. All issued permits will become invalid on that date.

Agencies across the state have been busy responding to reported wildland fires, including two recent fires exceeding 150 acres, one of which threatened 75 structures. Several of the fires are exhibiting typical August fire behavior.

The 10-acre Fifteenmile Fire in the 3600 block of Fifteenmile road, took nine engines, three water tenders and more than 35 firefighters from Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, Klickitat County Fire Districts 6 and 11, Dufure Fire Department, Oregon Department of Forestry and USFS-Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area to contain. It threatened several structures. Additional assistance and resources were provided by Columbia Rural Fire Protection District.
