The Dalles Honor sacrifice
To the editor:
Every year around this time something special happens in The Dalles. It’s the Veterans Day Parade. It is my favorite parade of all. It does not have as many and isn’t as loud as most; sadly, not as many people attend this parade either. However, it is by far the most meaningful. I stand each year and watch veterans go by, representing every branch of the armed forces and many generations of service and am in awe of their sacrifice. I see them proudly wearing their uniforms, our grandparents, parents, children and spouses.
These vets are our friends, co-workers and neighbors.
Currently, many people are concerned about political issues, but I remind you that someone has provided you the opportunity to live in a free country, to enjoy your home and family, to worship as you choose and to vote without persecution.
I will be proudly watching the parade go by, waving and thanking every veteran for their sacrifice and service to our country. They deserve our gratitude and respect. See you at the parade!
