Banquet honors ‘True Pioneers’

The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce will roll out the red carpet Thursday, Jan. 15, to honor the “True Pioneers of Our Time.”

The banquet to recognize people who “go the extra mile to help out any way they can” will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Fort Dalles Readiness Center, 402 E. Scenic Drive.

“This time-honored tradition is held to honor the upstanding citizens and members of the community of The Dalles area,” said Lisa Farquharson, executive director of the chamber.

“These people do so much for our community but have a tendency to stay behind the scenes. This is our opportunity to ‘Thank you!’”

The theme of this year’s banquet is in conjunction with the 50th celebration of The Fort Dalles Rodeo.

Nominees for awards in six categories have been submitted and the people earning those honors will be named at the event.

The categories are; Business of the Year; Outstanding Agricultural Achievement; Outstanding Woman; Outstanding Man; Outstanding Youth; and, Outstanding Volunteer.

“This special evening is a celebration of what makes The Dalles an amazing place to live, work and raise a family — its citizens,” said Farquharson. “These nominations are taken very seriously and are viewed by many as an esteemed honor to receive.”

The dinner will be prepared by Cowboy Catering and live classic jazz performed by Dianna Lysgaard and Mike Stillman.

Members of the community are invited to attend and tickets are now available at the chamber office, 04 W. Second Street, at a cost of $35 per person or $500 per table.
