The Dalles volleyball team had a 2-1 lead after three sets, but wound up losing 25-22 in the fourth and then lost 15-10 in the fifth set to lose its home opener to North Marion Monday night at Kurtz Gym.
“We played well tonight for our first match,” said TD head coach Neticia Fanene. “We have a brand new group of girls with more than half not having any varsity experience. We knew that no matter who we were playing, we would really have to focus on keeping our errors low.”
Sierra Watson posted 13 kills and eight digs, Kathryn Bradford went for seven kills, 11 digs and five of the team’s 14 service aces, and Hannah Wallis dished up 29 assists, had 17 digs and two kills.
Bailey LeBreton totaled eight kills and two blocks, Kilee Hoylman led the team with 22 digs, Lindsi Logue added seven digs, and the senior tandem of Kayla Seibel and Karen Jesch combined for eight kills, three assists, two digs and a block.
“The team did really well handling the ups and downs of the game,” Fanene said. “We were able to keep fighting past that second set when we found ourselves down with over a 10-point deficit. I am very proud of how these girls pulled together for the first match. We’ve got some great talent and we are only going to get better as we go.”
TD (0-1 overall) heads to the Mountain View Tournament starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Bend.
