The No. 5-ranked Dufur Rangers came out swinging early and often in their blowout win over Ione.
Asa Farrell scored three touchdowns and both Anthony Thomas and Tanner Masterson added two scores apiece to lead the undefeated Rangers to a 54-8 victory Friday at Dufur High School.
Dufur inflicted its damage in the first quarter with 40 straight points, the first end zone trip coming on a 56-yard scamper by Farrell.
Thomas then returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown and then Derek Frakes connected with Masterson on a 53-yard pass play, which swelled the lead to 22-0 with 7:40 on the clock.
Thomas then had a 13-yard run, Masterson raced for a 23-yard run and Farrell finished the first period on a 64-yard run to swell the Dufur advantage to 40-0.
The Rangers and Cardinals traded second-quarter touchdowns, with Kaleb Pence hitting paydirt from nine yards to make it 46-0, until Ione responded with a score.
Ahead 46-8 at the half, Dufur invoked the running clock in the third quarter following a 57-yard punt return from Farrell.
In all, the Rangers rattled off 352 yards and went 4 of 8 on third down conversions.
Frakes completed 2 of 4 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Farrell totaled 107 yards rushing on three carries with a score.
Masterson notched a touchdown and picked up 43 yards rushing on four attempts and he tacked on one catch for 53 yards and a score.
Pence carried the ball 10 times for 46 yards with a touchdown and he caught a 25-yard pass from backup quarterback Cooper Bales.
Ione’s offense managed 104 yards, 102 rushing on 33 carries, and went 3 of 10 on third downs.
Farrell had a team-high 10 tackles, Anthony was right behind with eight, Trey Darden had seven and Pence tallied six tackles.
The Rangers (5-0 overall, 4-0 league) hosts No. 7-ranked Imbler (4-1, 3-1) on Homecoming night at 7 p.m. Friday. Last week, the Panthers suffered a 28-14 road loss to the Pilot Rock Rockets.
