Dufur clinches West Division crown, 46-8

No. 2 Rangers drop Pilot Rock for eighth victory

Derek Frakes completed 6 of 7 passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns, and Cole Kortge had a breakout performance through the air in No. 2-ranked Dufur’s 46-8 victory on the road against Pilot Rock Thursday.

Frakes had scoring passes to Kortge and Asa Farrell to start the onslaught and then Farrell made the score 18-0 through one period to spark the undefeated Rangers (8-0 overall, 7-0 league).

In the second quarter, Dufur hit paydirt four more times, once on an 11-yard scamper by Tanner Masterson, and three on passes, as Frakes hit Kilby on a 57-yard strike, added a 52-yarder to Kortge and Masterson swelled the lead to 46-0 at the half.

The Rangers totaled 417 yards of offense, 177 rushing on 33 attempts, while the rockets were stopped in their tracks with 81 yards on 46 plays, including 25 rushes for negative-35 yards.

Farrell rushed for a team-leading 130 yards on seven totes, Masterson had 35 yards and a score and his only catch was for 24 yards and increased the lead to 46-0 at the half.

Kortge scored twice and posted 88 yards on two receptions. Kilby hit the end zone on his 57-yard catch and Farrell went 55 yards to the house on his lone catch.

Russell Peters led the Rangers with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks, Masterson posted nine tackles and two interceptions, Kilby rattled off seven tackles and a pair of sacks, and Kaleb Pence check in with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks, as Dufur forced Pilot Rock into two turnovers, 6.5 sacks, to go with four punts.

The district crossover runs at 10 a.m. on Saturday on the campus of Eastern Oregon University.

This week’s game at Sherman High School is canceled.
