Masterson’s big night spurs Dufur

DUFUR – Tanner Masterson had a game for the ages to help lead the No. 4-ranked Dufur Rangers.

Masterson had three rushing touchdowns, receiving scores of 37 and 20, and he completed a conversion pass to Cole Kortge in Dufur’s 66-36 league victory at home Friday against Union.

Dufur quarterback Derek Frakes had his hand in the team’s first three scores, tossing a 40-yard touchdown to Asa Farrell and then added scoring completions of 37 and 20 to Masterson, before ending the first quarter with a 24-yard run to make it a 30-0 cushion.

The Rangers increased their lead to 52-12 at the half on a 34-yard run by Masterson, a five-yard scramble from Cooper Bales and a 53-yard scamper from Masterson.

Asa Farrell notched a 65-yard run and Kaleb Pence barreled into the end zone from a yard out to finish the scoring.

Frakes completed 4 of 4 passes for 94 yards and three touchdowns and Bales totaled 42 yards on 3 of 4 completions.

Of the team’s 304 yards on 36 rushes, Masterson led Dufur with 111 yards on three rushing attempts, Farrell ended up with 70 yards on two totes with a score and Pence added 54 yards and a touchdown on 15 rushes.

Farrell had 40 yards on one catch with a touchdown, Pence went for 30 yards on one catch and Masterson had two catches and pushed for 57 yards and two scores.

Dufur ran 44 plays for 443 yards, converted 4 of 8 on third downs and went 6 of 7 on point-after conversions.

The Ranger defense allowed 327 yards, 259 rushing on 28 carries and limited Union to 0 of 8 on third downs.

Abraham Kilby notched two sacks, and both Trey Darden and Caleb Olson reeled off a sack apiece, and Russell Peters intercepted a pass.

Dufur (3-0 overall) makes a trip to Enterprise High School for a 7 p.m. matchup Friday versus the No. 19 Outlaws (1-2).
