Pink is more than a color

The Mid-Columbia Health Foundation threw a small party at its Second Street headquarters Monday to celebrate a contribution to its Breast Health for Strong Families Program. On the first day of October, the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, foundation leaders gathered with representatives from the Fort Dalles Rodeo Association, which turned over a check for $3,500.

Winter constellations to emerge during October

October, our first full month of fall, brings colorful leaves, a nip of frost in the air, and very dark skies when the weather is clear. The bright planets Saturn and Mars are visible, but fainter, and Jupiter is sinking toward the sunset this month. However, the bright winter constellations are appearing on the eastern horizon, and the Milky Way is still stunning on dark nights.

Quintero named ‘Caregiver of the Year’

Veronica Quintero, a certified nursing assistant at Columbia Basin Care in The Dalles, has been named Caregiver of the Year for 2018 by the Oregon Health Care Association. Quintero has worked at Columbia Basin Care for three years and serves as a mentor to new aides, working side-by-side to share proper protocols and procedures.

Baha’i’s of The Dalles to host regional convention

Baha’i’s from Astoria to the Wallowas will gather at the Civic Auditorium Oct. 7 for the annual election of area delegates to their national convention, hosted by the Spiritual Assembly of Baha’i’s of The Dalles. In October Baha’i’s gather in larger unit conventions to elect regional representatives who, in turn, will meet at the national center in Willmette, Ill., to elect the National Spiritual Assembly for the United States.
